The Quincy-Columbia Basin Irrigation District's Water Quality Program seeks to meet the District's operation and maintenance objectives as well as Local, State, and Federal regulatory requirements in the interest of the landowners. We constantly test and work with our partners to find the best ways to remove weeds and algae from our irrigation system and to apply them effectively.

In the process of improving water quality, we will treat canals with aquatic herbicides for weed and algae control.  If you would like to receive advanced notice of these treatments, such as if you are an organic producer, you must submit annual written notice to the District.  One of the substances we use is OMRI Listed Copper Sulfate.  This may be used in certified organic production or food processing and handling according to the USDA National Organic Program Rule, so organic producers may not be required to turn off their water when we treat with copper.
